Tool steel grades hold their edge because vanadium builds fine carbides that resist both wear and softening — the difference between a die that runs a thousand shots and one that runs a hundred thousand. Iron vanadium alloy is how those vanadium units enter the melt, and the FeV60 and FeV70 grades give the tool room two working points: the 60% grade as a GB/T 4139-2012 table entry at 58.0–65.0% vanadium, and the 70% grade as ZhenAn’s trade specification at 70% minimum for industrial steel alloying programs that want concentration ahead of the final step to FeV80. Both are supplied as lump from the Henan works.
The route from purchase order to charging ladle runs in five steps:
| Element line | FeV60-A | FeV70 (trade) |
|---|---|---|
| Vanadium | 58.0–65.0% | ≥70% |
| Carbon max | 0.40% | Agreed |
| Silicon max | 2.0% | Agreed |
| Phosphorus max | 0.06% | Agreed |
| Sulfur max | 0.04% | Agreed |
| Aluminum max | 1.5% | Agreed |
Read the table as two contracts: the left column is fixed by the national standard, the right column by negotiation between buyer and supplier — and every agreed number reappears on the lot COA, which is what the tool steel shop audits against.
Beyond tool steel proper — cold work, hot work, and high speed families — vanadium turns up in alloy steel for shafts and gears, spring steel, wear plate for materials handling, crushing and grinding parts, dies and molds, and fastener grades where strength-to-weight carries a premium. Industrial steel alloying practice leans on the same carbonitride chemistry in each case; only the dose changes.
Before the order goes out, a tool steel buyer confirms the vanadium band of each target grade and decides whether the 60% table grade or the 70% trade grade delivers it more cheaply per vanadium unit. The next checks are practical: lump fraction against the melting equipment, impurity ceilings the grades will tolerate, packing that suits inbound handling, and the document set — COA, SDS, and any retained-sample clause — that keeps the audit trail clean from ladle to finished bar.
Q: Why not jump straight to FeV80 for tool steel?
The 60% and 70% grades often deliver the same vanadium at better arithmetic when the heat can accept the iron.
Q: Is FeV70 a standard grade?
It is a trade specification — 70% vanadium minimum with impurity limits agreed and certified per lot.
Q: How tight can carbon run?
0.40% max in FeV60-A; the trade grade’s carbon is whatever the contract sets.
Q: What sizing and packing ship?
Lump at 10–50 mm, 1 MT big bags, variations on request.
Q: What is the lead time?
7–10 working days after payment clears.
Q: Can the works sustain a monthly program?
2000 MT per month stands behind the offer.
