Nearly everything silicon-based starts as elemental silicon, and most of it moves through the plant as powder. Silicone production, chemical processing and the wider silicon-based material trade — silica sol, silicon nitride precursors, silane chemistry — all draw on the same raw material: Si metal powder milled from smelted silicon metal.
