Ferrotitanium is a versatile special alloy. When added to steel as an alloying element, it refines the grain structure, fixes interstitial elements (carbon and nitrogen), and enhances the steel's strength.
In the smelting of stainless steel and heat-resistant steel, titanium combines with carbon to form a stable compound, preventing the formation of chromium carbide and thus reducing intergranular corrosion and improving the weldability of chromium-nickel stainless steel. The products of titanium deoxidation are easy to float, and titanium deoxidation in killed steel can reduce segregation in the upper part of the ingot, thereby improving the quality of the ingot and increasing the ingot yield.
Titanium combines with nitrogen dissolved in the molten steel to form a stable, insoluble titanium nitride. High-titanium ferrotitanium is also an indispensable alloy material for smelting iron-based high-temperature alloys and high-quality stainless steel. With the improvement of steel quality and the increase in varieties, the requirements for the quality and varieties of ferrotitanium are becoming higher and higher.
The international market has a large demand for high-titanium ferrotitanium with high titanium content, but most iron alloy plants in China only produce ordinary medium and low-titanium ferrotitanium. For ferrotitanium with w(Ti) = 65%~75%, w(Al) ≤ 4%, few manufacturers have formal production.
