Ferro Silicon is made from coke, steel scale, quartz (or silica) as raw materials and smelted in a submerged arc furnace. Silicon and oxygen easily form silicon dioxide. Therefore, silicon iron is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking, and at the same time, the release of a large amount of heat during the formation of SiO2 is also beneficial to increasing the temperature of molten steel.
Ferro Silicon is used as an alloy element additive and is widely used in low-alloy structural steel, alloy steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, and electrical silicon steel. Silicon iron is often used as a reducing agent in the iron alloy and chemical industries. The silicon content reaches 95%-99%. Pure silicon is often used to manufacture monocrystalline silicon or prepare non-ferrous metal alloys.
