TZM alloys have many excellent physical and chemical properties similar to molybdenum, including high melting point, high strength, high modulus of elasticity, low coefficient of linear expansion, low vapor pressure, good thermal and electrical conductivity, good corrosion resistance, and good high-temperature mechanical properties, and are therefore widely used as high-temperature components in a variety of fields.

However, compared to TZM alloys, molybdenum has a lower recrystallization temperature, lower strength and higher brittleness, which limits the range of applications for molybdenum.TZM alloys are based on a Mo matrix with small amounts of Zr, Ti and C elements. These finely dispersed particles prevent molybdenum grains from growing at high temperatures. This increases the recrystallization temperature of the alloy, which results in a significant improvement of the alloy's properties.

Room and high temperature tensile mechanical properties of TZM alloys: The room temperature tensile strength of TZM alloys is significantly higher than that of molybdenum, but the room temperature elongation of TZM alloys is not as high as that of molybdenum. Experiments show that at 1200 ℃, the tensile strength of molybdenum has decreased significantly, but the tensile strength of TZM alloy is still maintained at a high level. This is mainly due to the fact that the second phase reinforcement of TZM alloys hinders the dislocation motion, thus improving the strength of the alloys. In addition, these dispersed second phases affect the dislocation motion.
