What is the manufacturing method of high power graphite electrodes?
High-power graphite electrodes are manufactured using a combination of petroleum coke and pitch. First, the petroleum coke is crushed and mixed with pitch as a binder. Then, the mixture is extruded into the desired shape and size and baked at high temperatures to remove any impurities. The baking process also converts the pitch into carbon, giving the electrode its electrical conductivity. The final step in the manufacturing process is graphitization, where the baked electrode is heated to temperatures exceeding 3000°C to convert the amorphous carbon into graphite.
