The main functions of vanadium in steel are:
(1) Refine the microstructure and grain of steel, improve the grain coarsening temperature, thus reducing the sensitivity of overheating, and improve the strength and toughness of steel.
(2) when dissolved into austenite at high temperature, increase the hardenability of steel; In contrast, in the presence of carbide, the hardenability of the steel is reduced.
(3) Increase the hardenability and tempering stability of quenched steel, refine the grain, and produce secondary hardening effect.
(4) The solid solubility of vanadium carbide and vanadium nitride in austenite is higher. Therefore, it is not easy to produce cracks caused by precipitation at high temperature, and the tendency of cracks in the billet is small in the solidification process.
(5) Vanadium and nitrogen have strong binding force and can form vanadium nitride, which is conducive to reducing strain aging of steel, which is very important for steel bars undergoing cold deformation in the service process.
