Metal silicon powder can replace ferrosilicon, effectively reducing production costs and improving the quality of castings. Metal silicon powder reacts with oxygen in the liquid slag phase or liquid metal, strongly releasing a large amount of combustion heat, because the formed SiO2 quickly escapes in this case, strengthening the kinetic conditions of the reaction. This characteristic is very important for deoxidation. The process is helpful.
Both Si and C contained in SiC have the potential to be oxidized. When the temperature is the same, the potential of the two is approximately the same. Therefore, SiC is also an excellent deoxidizer not only for cold air cupolas, but also for hot air cupolas.
The deoxidation of SiC is in the induction furnace. SiSiC and CSiC are determined by the amount of scrap steel added and its quality, which is between 85% and more than 95%. For cupolas, its significance is small, and the deoxidation effect can only be expressed in general terms. The melting process (including the use of cold air, secondary air, oxygen enrichment, hot air, acidity, alkalinity, no lining) and temporary changes in the melting process will have an important impact.
