Ferrosilicon nitride is a mixture with Si3N4 as the main component, usually accompanied by free iron, non-ferrosilicon nitride and a small amount of other components. It can significantly improve the plugging performance of the mud and meet the needs of blast furnace tapping. The stability of ferrosilicon nitride performs well at high temperatures, especially in nitrogen atmosphere, where it can maintain high stability.

 

Research on the high-temperature stability of ferrosilicon nitride under nitrogen atmosphere shows that the phase composition changes with the increase of the calcining temperature. For example, at 1500°C, the phases present in the sample are β-Si3N4, α-Si3N4, Si2N2O, SiC and Fe3Si; while at 1600°C, the content of β-Si3N4 increases, and three ferrosilicon alloys, Fe3Si, Fe5Si3 and FeSi, coexist. , α-Si3N4 and Si2N2O disappear; when the temperature rises to 1700°C, the β-Si3N4 content decreases significantly and α-Si3N4, Fe5Si3 and FeSi phases coexist, and the Fe3Si phase disappears.

 

The stability of ferrosilicon nitride is also related to its particle size. The coarser ferrosilicon powder particle size is conducive to the nitridation reaction, because the coarser ferrosilicon powder will not cause the nitridation reaction to be too fast in the early stage of the reaction, thus avoiding over-sintering. In addition, ferrosilicon nitride has a series of advantages such as high refractory resistance, good corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, good thermal shock resistance, low thermal expansion rate and high oxidation resistance. These characteristics make ferrosilicon nitride a good application in refractory materials, especially in castables, gun clay and composite refractory materials.
