Vanadium pentoxide is produced from vanadium titanium magnetite
The chemical composition of vanadium-titano-magnetite is as follows: V0.3% ~ 1.4%, Fe about 60%, TiO2 about 14%. Vanadium-bearing pig iron is obtained from vanadium-bearing titano-magnetite by coke reduction in blast furnace (or electric furnace). The content of V0.4% ~ 1.2%, Si<0.5%, Ti about 0.3%. This kind of pig iron in the top blow oxygen converter (or shaking bag) with oxygen smelting of vanadium slag, containing V10% ~ 15%, FeO25% ~ 45%, SiO213% ~ 20%, TiO2 about 10%, Cr2O31% ~ 5.0%. The slag is mixed with metallic iron (semi-steel). After crushing, ball grinding to particle size <0. 1mm, with air separator or magnetic separator to select metal iron, used as a raw material for the production of vanadium pentaoxide. Vanadium exists as spinel phase in vanadium slag. To use oxidation method to oxidize V2O3 to V2O5, and then combine with Na2O to form water soluble sodium vanadate. The sodifying agents used are soda ash, glauber's glass or salt. The reaction of sodium oxidation roasting is:
4FeO·V2O3+4Na2CO3+5O2 ⇀8NaVO3+2Fe2O3+4CO2↑
