Medium-carbon manganese ferroalloys and high-carbon manganese ferroalloys are both a kind of manganese ferroalloys, and there are differences between them in terms of chemical composition, physical properties and application scope.
Firstly, in terms of chemical composition, the carbon content of medium-carbon ferromanganese alloys ranges from 1.5% to 2.5%, and the manganese content ranges from 75% to 85%; while the carbon content of high-carbon ferromanganese alloys ranges from 6% to 8%, and the manganese content ranges from 70% to 80%. It can be seen that medium carbon ferromanganese alloys have a relatively low carbon content, while high carbon ferromanganese alloys have a high carbon content.
Secondly, in terms of physical properties, the melting point of medium carbon manganese ferroalloys is higher, with a melting temperature of about 1370°C, whereas that of high carbon manganese ferroalloys is lower, at about 1220°C. The melting temperature of high carbon manganese ferroalloys is about 1,000°C. In addition, medium carbon manganese ferroalloys have better wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and can maintain better hardness and strength at higher temperatures; while high carbon manganese ferroalloys have higher hardness and wear resistance, and can be used in harsher working environments.
In terms of application, medium carbon ferromanganese alloys are mainly used in the production of low carbon ferromanganese, alloy steel, abrasive tools, calcium carbide and refractory ceramics. As medium carbon ferromanganese alloy has better anti-wear and corrosion resistance, it is widely used in metallurgy, machinery, chemical industry, electric power and other industries. High-carbon manganese ferroalloys, on the other hand, are mainly used in the production of high-hardness and high-strength low-alloy steel, high-alloy steel, refractory materials and cutting tools and other products. The high hardness and anti-wear properties of high carbon manganese ferroalloys make them ideal materials for the manufacture of cutting tools and abrasives.
