Ferroalloys are alloys of iron with other elements, such as manganese, silicon, and chromium, that are used in the production of steel and other alloys. Silicon is a common element found in ferroalloys and is often added to steel production to improve its quality and properties.
Silicon slag is a byproduct of the production of silicon metal and ferrosilicon alloys. It is formed when silica (SiO2) is reduced to silicon metal (Si) or ferrosilicon (FeSi) in a high-temperature process. The slag is composed of various oxides and silicates, including silicon dioxide (SiO2), iron oxide (FeO), and aluminum oxide (Al2O3).
Silicon slag can be used as a substitute for ferrosilicon in steelmaking and as a raw material for the production of cement. It can also be used as a deoxidizer in the production of non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminum.
