Ferroalloys are used as additives in the manufacture of various special types of alloy steels and castings. Ferroalloys are usually made in electric arc furnaces. The uneven element concentration of alloy steel tends to be more restrictive than that of ordinary carbon steel. In the steel industry, silicon alloys are used for alloying, deoxidizing and reducing other alloying elements such as manganese, chromium, tungsten and molybdenum. Ferrosilicon containing 14-95% silicon is widely used in the steel industry, and silicon is present in most commercial grades of steel and cast iron. In the manufacture of aluminum alloy castings containing 2% to 25% silicon, most of the metallic silicon is consumed. Ferrosilicon is available in several grades to suit the various quality and economic requirements of the steel industry. Use it to remove impurities from iron, thereby improving the quality of steel. This steel is suitable for transformer core manufacturing and other electrical applications.
