Making manganese alloys
If 2.5-3.5% manganese is added to steel, the resulting low-manganese steel is simply as brittle as glass and will break at a knock. However, if more than 13% manganese is added to make high-manganese steel, it becomes both hard and ductile.
In addition to manganese steel, manganese steel is also an important manganese alloy, which contains 30% manganese and has excellent mechanical strength.
The important compound of manganese is manganese dioxide. In nature, there is a large amount of natural manganese dioxide - pyrolusite.
