What are common uses of 98–99.8% V2O5?

Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) with a purity range of 98% to 99.8% is one of the most widely used commercial grades in metallurgy, chemical processing, catalyst manufacturing, and alloy production. This broad purity range offers an optimal balance between cost-efficiency and performance, making it suitable for both large-scale industrial operations and high-specification applications.
In steelmaking, this grade of V2O5 is used to produce high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels, tool steels, and spring steels. Vanadium enhances strength, hardness, and wear resistance by forming fine carbides and nitrides during heat treatment.
In the chemical industry, 98–99.8% V2O5 acts as a strong oxidizing agent and catalyst, especially in the production of sulfuric acid (SO₂ to SO₃ conversion), NOx emission control, and organic compound oxidation. It performs reliably in fixed-bed and fluidized-bed reactors under varying temperature conditions.
For metallurgical uses, such as producing ferrovanadium or vanadium-aluminum alloys, this grade ensures adequate vanadium content with manageable impurity levels, supporting cost-effective alloy production.
The flake or powder form of 98–99.8% V2O5 also allows for easy handling, accurate dosing, and uniform distribution in molten metals or chemical reactions. Suppliers often offer this grade with quality certificates, particle size options, and customization to meet specific industrial needs.
